LT GEN BALRAJ SINGH NAGAL, PVSM, AVSM, SM (Retd)
Lt Gen BS Nagal, Param Vishisth Seva Medal, Ati Vishisth Seva Medal, Sena Medal (Retd), an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Indian Military Academy and St Thomas High School, Dehradun was commissioned in the Jat Regiment in 1970. In his professional career spanning more than 40 years in the Army and two years with PMO, the General Officer has teneted high profile appointments like Chief Strategic Programme Staff, Commander-in-Chief of Strategic Forces Command, Director General Operational Logistics at the Indian Army HQ, Commanded a pivot corps along Jammu and Kashmir Division and an Independent Mechanised Brigade Group along Western Sector.
The General Officer is a graduate of Army Staff Course at Camberley UK, Higher Command Course, Army War College, Mhow, and National Defence College, New Delhi. Lt Gen Nagal is a war veteran of 1971 Indo-Pak war and has extensive operational experience in Low Intensity Conflict, Operational Logistics and Conventional Military Operations in almost all terrain obtainable in India.
Lt Gen Nagal has held various staff and instructional appointments. Some of the prestigious staff appointments held by him include Brigade Major of an Infantry Brigade, Colonel General Staff of Infantry Division and Brigadier General Staff of a Corps. Besides this, General Officer has held the appointment of GSO 1 at the Military Training Directorate and was responsible for conduct of promotion & competitive exam for Indian Army officer and as Additional Director General Complaints and Advisory Board handled the legal and redressal mechanism of Indian Army. He was instructor at NDA, IMA and Army War College.
His area of interest are Nuclear deterrence/ doctrine/ strategy/ policy.
He has taken over as Director CLAWS with effect from 01 December 2014.
